New Employment Eligibility Verification I-9 Form

The United States Citizenship & Immigration Service (the “USCIS”) has issued a new version of the Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9, which is required for all new hires and re-verifications (the “Revised Form I-9”).  A copy of the Revised Form I-9 can be found on the USCIS website, at

The Revised Form I-9 includes new data fields, a revised format, and clearer instructions for both employers and employees.  Employers should begin using the Revised Form I-9 immediately; however, USCIS has granted a grace period, ending May 7, 2013, during which time employers may continue to use previously valid I-9 Forms.  Employers should not fill out a Revised Form I-9 for employees who have previously completed the Form I-9, unless the employees must be re-verified.

Employers should carefully review the Revised Form I-9 to ensure compliance with all required information and documentation.  If you have any questions regarding the Revised Form I-9 or other matters concerning the hiring process, please do not hesitate to contact us.
