NYC Commission on Human Rights Releases Pregnancy and Employment Rights Poster

On October 2, 2013, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed into law the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (“PWFA”), which amends the New York City Human Rights Law.  The PWFA took effect January 20, 2014.  The PWFA requires employers to provide a reasonable accommodation for an employee’s pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions.  We have previously advised you of the PWFA.  See our Alert dated September 30, 2013 (

The PWFA requires New York City employers to provide written notice to employees concerning their rights under the PWFA. The New York City Commission on Human Rights (the “Commission”) has released a poster entitled “Pregnancy and Employment Rights” on the Commission’s website (  Employers satisfy the notice requirement by displaying the poster conspicuously in an area accessible to employees.
